I want to share the History of Georgia State Society of AMT
(GSSAMT) with our members.
In 1952 the GSSAMT received its charter which gave
notification that a great future was expected for its
members. On December 4, 1982, the Society met in
Macon, Georgia to celebrated 30th anniversary.
The evening began with a Past Presidents' reception which
was a warm welcome for old friends who had served the state
society for many years. Among the senior members present
were Alvin Brantley, 2nd President, 1953 and Norman Allen,
3rd President, 1954. Other Presidents were honored: Martha
Lane, Tommy Owens, Lou Queen, Gerald Leonard and Ron
Tomberlin.
Members and guests enjoyed a buffet dinner compliments of
GSSAMT. Later in the evening Patricia Leonard
officially welcomed the members
and guests to a special occasion, stating that it important
for all families to know who they are, where they have been,
where they are going---
and the GSSAMT was no exception. Historian Martha Lane
welcomed the National Board Member Johnny Andrews, AMTIE
Board member
Kay Parrot, and South Carolina immediate Past President
Joyce Lybrand. Martha Lane spoke about the events and people
that had shaped
the State Society. She recalled the past presidents and the
years that they served. Marilyn Muse Lynch was the 1st
president in 1952, when
some of the first meetings were held under shade trees in
the summer. Also noted were awards that had been presented
to the Society and its
members: Superior State Society Award, President's Award,
Order of the Golden Microscope Award, numerous Distinguished
Achievement
Award and Exceptional Merit Awards to the members. The MOST
IMPROVED PUBLICATION AWARD to editor Lewis Pratt 1981.
Martha Lane served as Southern District Co-Councillor for
many years. Tommy Owens served as National Board member for
several years.

The State Society have seen many changes since
1982: Officers serves more than a one year term and the

Watch the Officer's Corner each month for a message from GSSAMT

NOTE: Legislative Alert! See LegislativeNEW! GSSAMT is proud to announce the establishment of our link to the interactive job site! We are now linked with Career Connections! Just Click on the logo.NOTICE!!! AMT Members Matthew Patton, Editor, ADVANCE for Medical Laboratory Professional, would like to publish articles on advances and changes in the healthcare profession. This would be especially true for the laboratory profession. He would especially like article from members who have been in the field for twenty or more years. However, I am sure as an editor; he would accept articles from some of our younger members. These articles should reflect changes that you have seen taken place over the years. I can remember using oil bath to incubate chemistry test. Now most tests are enzymatic. I can remember inoculating sugars for bacterial testing. Now, this is automated. If you have an article to write about an experience you would like to share, you can contact Matthew at: Matthew T.
